Architecture

E&E Net-Zero buildings idealistically have a roof that is orientated at the south. The roofs are completely filled with solar panels and collectors to generate plenty of renewable energy. On the northern side, plenty opportunity is created to apply large windows. This way the houses have loads of natural daylight but can be isolated thoroughly by applying triple layered glass in order to prevent loss of valuable energy.

Construction: EUROSTEELframinging

The construction of the E&E houses is made up by a prefabricated thin gauge steel frame.  A relatively new building method throughout Europe.

The high grade steel is standard galvanized with a G140/Z450-layer. So even when it is exposed completely to the elements, the frame is resistant against corrosion for 30 years guaranteed. After the frame is cladded with other materials this quickly becomes even longer. The steel itself is 100% recyclable.

The steel frame walls and floors are manufactured and engineered  by the newest and most sophisticated software. Industrial, computer controlled roll forming machines produce the individual elements. This process ensures every that every part is exactly straight and all corners will be square during installation. The final tolerance is only 1mm, which is unrivaled in the market. Simulation and controls reduce the failure rate on the construction site to a minimum.

Wind and water-proof within two weeks

On the construction site, the frames are installed on the foundation until it forms the entire structure. Because it is lightweight compared to other systems, it is easy to pick up by hand. This also means the foundation can be lighter, thus saving time and costs. Because the elements are prefabricated, installation only takes a few days instead of weeks. Within two weeks on average, an entire structure can be made wind-and water proof.

Façade: FixBrick

Another new element within the E&E concept is the patented FixBrick facade system. The entire facade can be made by the new system that enables to connect regular ceramic bricks with a specially molded connector to the construction.

In E&E buildings this system is applied which results in a sustainable and re-usable brick façade. No cement or other bonding materials are needed. The final view is unique because of the slim 4mm joint that is created by the connector. This also allows the joints to ventilate, reducing the usual amount of molding and stains on the face side of the bricks. This system embraces the cradle to cradle philosophy which helps to reduce the ecologic footprint of the building dramatically.

Solidpaint and Medite Tricoya. Construction material with a long lifespan and low cost of ownership.

Solidpaint is a revolutionary, solvent free paint foil. This flexible top layer is applied to the natural wooden Medite Tricoya façade board, which can be used as a modern façade cladding. The product has unique characteristics like being scratch, chemical and grime resistant. Another advantage is that even after 15 years no decline in color or quality will take place. With a combined guarantee of 20 years on the board and top-finish, the maintenance that usually comes with façade systems is a lot lower, meaning lower cost of ownership.
